Wauwatosa Curling Club
Policy for Private Demonstration of Curling
February 4th, 2020

The Wauwatosa Curling Club (the Club) has Corporate Events / Private Rentals for large groups. However, Club Members occasionally bring small groups of friends/coworkers/neighbors to introduce them to curling.

The following policy will remain in force for these smaller, privately organized events by club members for events not under the oversight of the Corporate Events group of the Wauwatosa Curling Club:

  1. Requestor must be a current club member.

  2. Requestor must be present during the entire event and will be responsible for Ice and Clubroom conditions during the gathering.

  3. Requestor should notify the “owner” of the Club calendar (WCC Club Secretary, as of Feb 2020, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) to ensure there is no other planned event at that time.

  4. As we do not charge for these events, Requestor acknowledges that they will yield the ice and Clubroom to a paying group should one desire the same ice time for a paid event.

  5. Requestor must recruit enough help for them to safely teach/train. They may not ask for assistance from the Corporate Events team unless their group is paying for the event. The more trainers the better to ensure safety.

  6. Please have your guests be respectful of the ice. Clean shoes, no street shoes, have your guests act like they are league curlers when they step on the ice.

  7. Make sure you SIGN WAIVERS. This is critical. Nobody is allowed in the Icehouse unless they have signed a waiver. Under 18 needs approval from their parent/guardian. Waivers are on the back bar in a folder, or you can download it here.

  8. Please remember safety first at all times. This loops back to (5) to ensure you have enough trainers. We want your guests to have a positive experience.

  9. Although refreshments and broomstacking are acceptable once you are complete, please ensure there is no alcohol consumed by your guests before they go onto the ice. Safety First from (8). Donations for refreshments are not required, we wish to convey our Club’s hospitality to your guests.

  10. Since part of this is a recruiting effort, please take a few minutes at the completion of your event for a short sales pitch. This is my sport and my club, this is why I love it, this is how leagues work, this is the dues structure, let me know if you would like more information, etc.

  11. Sliders and Brooms are to be returned to the side chiller room once complete.

  12. Requestor must return the clubroom to its original condition, or better, after their event. Restoration of damages, if any, will be the responsibility of the Requestor.

About the Wauwatosa Curling Club

The Wauwatosa Curling Club is a friendly, 100%volunteer-operated club with deep roots in the Wauwatosa community. Our first game was played in 1921 in a shed on Stickney Avenue, just south of where Wauwatosa’s City Hall now stands. In 1925, that same shed was moved to what is now Hart Park, where curling continued until for nearly two decades. In 1941, the Club began play in its current home, the Muellner Building.

Renovated in 2024, the Wauwatosa Curling Club features four sheets of ice where members of all ages and skill levels come together to learn, compete, and socialize. We’re dedicated to fostering good sportsmanship, friendship, and a welcoming atmosphere, whether you’re sliding your very first stone or a seasoned bonspiel pro. The ice may be cold, but the community here is warm, and we’re proud to carry on more than a century of curling tradition in Milwaukee county.
