Safety & Sanitization

Greetings WCC Members!

It’s hard to believe that summer is winding down. We are a few days away from fall member registration, which opens up just after Labor Day. Details on registration are to follow.

Early in summer, all the talk on the WCC Board and various committees was filled with excitement and optimism about a return to normal. The excitement and enthusiasm was channelled into a number of different initiatives. You will all notice the upgrades to the camera system this year in the ice house along with new capabilities to broadcast. Thanks to everyone who volunteered at Brewers games and other events to jump start the fundraising effort for new rocks. You’ll be hearing more about getting that over the finish line in the next month or so.

Then came the Delta variant. The Safety and Sanitatization committee put in a lot of effort this past month to come up with our return to curling policies. We are going to be opening the year in Phase Yellow - full details on what this means is available at the link below. The committee and the board will be actively reviewing these policies throughout the year as community transmission rates change. Our goals are the same as last year: we want to make sure we are able to continue curling.

Mask Policy

The expectation is that all members, in the spirit of curling and community, continue to follow these policies. I also ask that in the spirit of curling, that we be kind to one another. Some members will be more comfortable than others and everyone’s personal situation is different. Some of us have elevated risk due to pre-existing conditions, some have loved ones that are more vulnerable or ineligible to receive the vaccine, and everyone needs to do what is best for themselves and their families.

We continue to all be in this together. We had a successful season last year and made the best of the situation. I expect nothing different from this year and am looking forward to doing what Tosa curlers do best - compete on the ice and bring the party off the ice, whether that’s to Sheet Zero or elsewhere.

Please contact me with questions or concerns.

Good curling,

About the Wauwatosa Curling Club

The Wauwatosa Curling Club is a friendly, 100%volunteer-operated club with deep roots in the Wauwatosa community. Our first game was played in 1921 in a shed on Stickney Avenue, just south of where Wauwatosa’s City Hall now stands. In 1925, that same shed was moved to what is now Hart Park, where curling continued until for nearly two decades. In 1941, the Club began play in its current home, the Muellner Building.

Renovated in 2024, the Wauwatosa Curling Club features four sheets of ice where members of all ages and skill levels come together to learn, compete, and socialize. We’re dedicated to fostering good sportsmanship, friendship, and a welcoming atmosphere, whether you’re sliding your very first stone or a seasoned bonspiel pro. The ice may be cold, but the community here is warm, and we’re proud to carry on more than a century of curling tradition in Milwaukee county.
