Wauwatosa Curling Club
Congrats to the Brown Rink!
Held February 8-10, 2019
Another successful bonspiel in the books for Wauwatosa Curling Club!
We had 24 TEAMS come to WCC to attend the Valentine Open February 8 – 10, 2019. We had the most outside teams this year we’ve ever had (sorry WCC members if you couldn’t play). Teams from Iron Mountain, MI/Blackhawk/Waltham/Stevens Point/Kettle Moraine/Milwaukee/Cedar Rapids, IA/Eau Claire/Chicago/Madison/Winona, MN/St Paul, MN/Lansing, MI…and the farthest traveling team was the Triangle Curling Club from North Carolina!!
Our Broomstacking Challenge with the Moon Sand Sculptures was a lot of fun and the winner was #3 – a pic would be a little racy for the public, just know that everyone did a great job and were very creative through the process.
Our band for Saturday Evening was Bacchanal, a group recommended by Allan Miller to rock us through the evening.
A Tasty Breakfast, Piper to Begin the Final Draw and Great Curling to end a fun weekend.
AND THE 1st WINNER IS…………THE BROWN rink playing for Madison/Tosa!
1st – Winner – Brown (Madison/Tosa), Runner Up – Bryce (Cedar Rapids, IA)
2nd – Winner – Dobbs (Milwaukee/Tosa), Runner Up – McMahon (Eau Claire)
3rd – Winner – Banaski (Stevens Point), Runner Up – Valentine (Milwaukee)
4th – Winner – Veler (Madison), Runner Up – Coleman (Milwaukee)
Our guests were so very generous, from our highest raffle ticket sales (thank you Mark Witte) to unasked for donations, we really want to say THANK YOU for supporting our cause.
NOW FOR THE PEOPLE THAT ARE OUR PARTNERS IN THIS ANNUAL EVENT
Tiffany Reilly and Rebecca Nguyen, the masters of the kitchen, who made our curlers happy with great meal after great meal, we could not have kept them happy without your help and mad skills!
Bill Christensen and Fran Cook, our resident Saturday evening chefs, how can you go wrong with the wonderful Prime Rib dinner served to our guests, the sous vide cooking process made the meat so tender, oh so good.
The Ice Man Cometh – Joe Matel coordinated the ice for the weekend and we had so many complements that it was the best ice they have ever experienced at WCC, that makes happy curlers which is our whole goal.
All the WCC members who volunteered their time to help with the bar, food, ice or baking goodies, all your hard work is appreciated and we hope you enjoyed yourself a little. And for those that couldn’t join us but donated towards our raffle, it was very well received and we had eager teams wanting to buy tickets.
As Chairs for this Bonspiel, we sincerely appreciate our club’s commitment to making The Valentine Open a success, it really makes our job easier and the event overall runs smoothly.
